A nonrelativistic model of superluminal knots is examined, in which knots are formed by synchrotron radiation thermal instability (SRTI). It is shown that the superluminal motion can be explained assuming small amplitude global oscillations of the galaxy which simultaneously initiate SRTI over a large region of the jet. The model is consistent with present observations and predicts small deprojected linear sizes, a high probability for random oriented (jet) sources to have apparent superluminal motion, and small inverse-Compton radiation for the superluminal motion sources. It is thus an interesting possible alternative to the standard beaming model for apparent superluminal motion and related phenomena.
