A simple model for the peculiar object MWC 349 is presented. The picture emerging from comparison between the theoretical fluxes and their observed values in the visible, infrared and radio region, seems to be that of a hot star, surrounded by dust and gas, with a cool supergiant companion, probably a carbon star. The dust would be responsible for the infrared continuum and the gas, from the surrounding H II region, could explain the visual and near infrared emission lines as well as the radio observations. The interesting thing which comes out from our calculations is that the infrared emission explaining the observations happens to be caused by dust completely inside the H II region.
