The dependence of the absorption coefficient on the coronal plasma density in the distance range r = 1.05-1.5 solar radius is established for various waves that heat the corona and the solar wind. The wave absorption coefficient depends more strongly on the density than does the coronal emission; it is this differential which causes the less dense coronal holes to appear cooler than quiet regions.
