It is shown that the observed fragmentation of cometary nuclei and other less radical manifestations of their activity can be explained by their bombardment by minicomets. It is suggested that small and medium-sized nuclei can divide into fragments of approximately equal mass, while only comparatively small fragments or clusters of dust and gas can separate from large nuclei.
