The European Southern Observatory is providing a new type of a two channel polarimeter which allows to save valuable telescope time by an automatic elimination of the sky background polarization. A simple rotation of the phase-plate system, which is necessary for this elimination, will allow also to avoid the determination of the additional phase-plate polarization. A special technique for manufacturing the compensating phase plate and the diaphragm wheel as well had to be applied in order to manage the correct function of the elimination of phase plate and sky background polarization.
