The problem of the propagation of a shock wave from a point explosion in a medium with an exponential density distribution and a symmetry plane is considered. Solutions describing the evolution of a figure-eight shaped expanding shock wave are obtained in the Kompaneets approximation. In the case of explosion above the symmetry plane, the formation of toroidal structures of increased density is possible; these structures can be observed in the X-ray range. It is shown that the energy generating the shock wave in the Galactic plane does not exceed 10 to the -7th for waves travelling a distance of greater than or equal to 1 kpc.
