The existing photoelectric observations of the long-period eclipsing binary V 889 Aql were analyzed in order to obtain the corresponding photometric elements and the period of apsidal motion. The results indicate that the two components of the system are very similar and the orbital inclination is close to 90 deg. Absolute dimensions were also estimated and the stars have been found to be almost unevolved. Apsidal motion has been discussed through the study of all available photoelectric minima. The photographic and visual estimates are very probably uncertain but the movement of the periastron seems definitely established though at a very slow rate. The period of apsidal motion was found to be close to 20,000 yr. The relativistic term of the observed periastron advance appears to be the main contribution and is in perfect agreement with the theoretical value.
