New photoelectric photometric observations of FG Hya in B and V are presented. Comparing with Binnendijk's observations (1962), the new ones suggest that the light curves of FG Hya may change and its orbital period is also changeable. The light curve analyses were carried out by using the Wilson-Devinney code. New photometric solutions reveal that FG Hya is an A-type contact binary, the overcontact degree of which is equal to 90 percent. On the basis of analyses of 19 A-type contact binaries, the relation between the thickness of the envelope (Delta r2) and the overcontact degree(f) and the mass ratio (q) are discussed and the following statistical formula has been obtained: Delta r2/r2 = 0.28 fq exp 1/4, where r2 is the relative radius of the secondary component.
