New UBV light curves and medium-dispersion spectroscopy of the early-type contact binary V701 Sco are presented. The masses, radii and temperatures of the two components are found to be almost identical. A large period change thought to be caused by mass transfer cannot be supported by the observations presented here, and it seems likely that the system is in a temporary equilibrium state after the rapid phase of Case A mass transfer.
