A set of five unpublished VBLUW light curves of the bright southern eccentric B-type double-lined eclipsing binary V539 Ara (= HD 16173 = HR 6622) is analyzed. One time of primary minimum and two times of secondary minimum are determined, and photometric elements in good agreement with previous values are obtained. A secondary/primary luminosity ratio of 0.64 is computed, along with logarithmic masses (in solar units) of approximately 0.83 for the primary and 0.76 for the secondary, as well as values of log g (in cgs units) of about 3.95 for the primary and 4.03 for the secondary. An age of 30 million years is estimated for a chemical composition of X = 0.70 and Z = 0.02. The theoretical models are shown to have effective temperatures of 19,200 K (for the primary) and 18,200 K (for the secondary), which are in the range expected from the spectral types.
