The present examination of all extant minima of the W-type contact binary V502 Oph revises ten times of minima from original observations and derives five new times of minima from new observations. The period study, covering 53 yrs of observations and 84 timings of minima light, indicates an orbital period oscillation of about 35 +/- 2 yrs, while undergoing a constant period decrease of about -1.45 x 10 exp -7 days/yr. No support is found for relationships between the period oscillation and the asymmetry measures of the binary's light curves; the most likely explanation is the light time effect. A hypothetical third body is considered.
