The paper describes an indirect or 'passive' search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) in 25 globular clusters observed at the water and hydroxyl lines for astronomical reasons. If H2O or OH beacons exist in these clusters, they should have effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP) of less than 10 to the 16th to the 10 to the 21st W; no beacons from a sample of about 10 to the 7th power galactic stars were evident. Finally, methods of enhancing the value of other astronomical spectral observing programs for SETI purposes were discussed.
