We present a ten-band photometric catalogue of intermediate redshift (0.4 < z < 1.6) Early-Type Galaxies (ETGs) observed as part of the Early Release Science program, with the Hubble Space Telescope using the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3). We construct the catalogue of 300 ETGs by visually inspecting each galaxy in the ERS-II Field with confirmed spectroscopic redshifts. As the novel sensitivity of the WFC3 at UV wavelengths provides unique access to Far- and Near-UV rest-frame emission of these galaxies, we are able to provide a preliminary analysis of the UV properties of these galaxies. We discuss the implications of the detection of UV flux in a significant number of ETGs at z < 1.6 as it pertains to understanding the star formation histories of ETGs, the UV Excess phenomenon, and the signatures of minor mergers.
This paper is based on Early Release Science observations made by the WFC3 Scientific Oversight Committee. We are grateful to the Director of the Space Telescope Science Institute for awarding Director's Discretionary time for this program. Support for program #11359 was provided by NASA through a grant from the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under NASA contract NAS 5-26555.
