One-sided radio jets are rarely found in association with low-power compact radio cores. MERLIN observations at 18 cm with sub-arcsecond resolution show such a jet in the nucleus of the optically bright elliptical galaxy NGC 6146. The jet length is ≡1 kpc, much shorter than is typical of extragalactic radio jets. A lower resolution VLA 20-cm image shows a 6-kpc component at a position angle close to that of the 1-kpc jet. No 18- or 20-cm components are detected on the counterjet side on scales between 0.2 and 12 kpc. Two interpretations of the 1-kpc jet in NGC 6146 are offered.
