The hypothesis that the extended components of extragalactic radio sources must be continuously supplied with energy and/or relativistic particles in a beam emanating from the nuclear regions is tested using a numerical hydrodynamic model. A low density beam penetrating a higher density ambient gas with a bulk beam velocity which is much higher than the sound speed in either the beam or the ambient gas is modeled. Results are presented for a variety of beam parameters and include maps of radio surface brightness for comparison with real radio sources.
