A numerical simulation has been carried out of the interaction between a magnetic cloud and a tail-gating high-speed stream observed on 1978-08-27/28. The simulation has largely reproduced the observed profiles at 1 au. The results of the simulation show that the system led to the formation of a forward fast and a forward slow shock (originating in the cloud) and a rearward fast shock (originating in the stream), whose properties are modified in varying degrees by the cloud-stream interaction. Under the pursuit of the stream, the expansion of the magnetic cloud is suppressed at its rear end, and a high-temperature, high-density and strong magnetic field structure is formed there.
