We propose J and H-band imaging to complete a survey searching for brown dwarfs in the Ophiuchus star-forming region. Our survey will create a complete census of 5-75 M_Jupiter substellar objects in ~2.5 square degree region. To find the brown dwarfs, we will combine our proposed broad-band photometry with existing observations taken using our newly designed, custom 1.45 micron filter. Photometry taken with our filter (which is centered on the prominent H_2O absorption feature in the spectra of brown dwarfs) can be combined with J and H-band photometry to determine the spectral types of young M and L-type brown dwarfs to within +/-1 subclass, independent of interstellar reddening. With an IMF complete down to planetary-masses, we can test theories of star and brown dwarf formation and compare our findings with results for other star-forming regions.
