Entropy production in p = rho cold baryon models of the early universe is investigated in the context of primordial shear damping. A Bianchi I model calculation is performed to determine whether the required entropy in anisotropic models can be produced by viscous damping of the primordial shear and whether the shear can be damped out within the cold baryon era. The results show that damping of large-scale density fluctuations resulting from shear or curvature fluctuations can generate enough entropy, the shear is practically untouched despite entropy production, and large-scale fluctuations can only be damped by linear processes such as viscosity and thermal conduction.
