The problem of the range of validity of the diffusion approximation in
fast-moving media is reconsidered in the wake of some arguments which
have appeared in the literature. It is shown that the approximation is
satisfied once the photon mean free path is much shorter than the
characteristic length scale, independently of the inflow velocity.
