Consideration is given to the physical and orbital parameters of the two types of earth-grazing asteroid (EGA): those thought to be dead comets and those resembling the true asteroids. The active life expectancy of short-period comets is shown to be less than 30,000 years for all comets with periods less than 12 years, leading to the implication that comets which are no longer active make up a majority of the EGAs. It is then shown, however, that there exist six major physical types of asteroid, of which only the C asteroids could possibly have a cometary origin. The distinctions between the characteristics of planetary and cometary EGAs are then discussed, with attention given to their semimajor axes, eccentricity, inclination, aphelion distance, motion constant, physical type, albedo, B - V and U - B color indices and light curve variations. On the basis of these characteristics, the sufficiently investigated EGAs are classified as either cometary or planetary, with 80 percent of them falling into the planetary category.
