Data obtained by high-dispersion spectrography and four-color photometry are presented which show that the highly luminous OB supergiant HD 269896, located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, is a nitrogen-rich star. The absolute visual magnitude of this star is estimated to be -8.1, and its spectrum is shown to contain some very strong N III lines along with exceedingly weak carbon-oxygen blends. It is concluded that HD 269896 has a nitrogen-rich carbon-deficient atmosphere and fulfills all the criteria to be classified as a nitrogen-rich O supergiant of spectral type ON9.7 IaO. Some possible origins of the nitrogen-rich OB supergiants are briefly considered.
