The High-Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (HETGS) onboard NASA's Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility (AXAF) is designed to perform high resolution X-ray spectroscopy with a spectral resolving power of up to 1000 in the 0.5 to 10 keV energy band. Here we present simulated AXAF/HETG spectra of galactic targets that are in the HETG guaranteed time AO1 target list. Simulated observations of the active cool stars AR Lac and II Peg and the nearby classical T Tauri star TW Hya make clear that HETG will yield a rich spectrum of line emission from their coronae, while a simulated observation of the Orion Trapezium demonstrates the potential of HETG spectroscopy of spatially crowded fields. Extended objects like supernova remnants will produce challenging data sets as spatial and spectral information are combined in the dispersed images. We present observational and analysis strategies to study regions of N132D and E0102-72 at the highest possible resolution. With X-ray binary targets such as 4U 1626-67 and GX 301-2, for example, we will exploit the capabilities of the instrument for high resolution spectroscopy troughout the entire AXAF bandpass. All presented simulations were performed with MIT's MARX (v2.14) simulator.
