I will present results on the structures, morphologies and merger histories of galaxies at z>1 based on NICMOS imaging from the GOODS NICMOS Survey (GNS), as well as new deep imaging from WFC3. Previous work has shown that galaxy structure changes relatively quickly from the distant universe at z>2, when galaxies are distorted and peculiar, to ellipticals and spirals at lower redshifts at z < 1. The epoch 1 < z < 3 is therefore the most important epoch for the transformation of galaxies from a forming population to a more quiescent Hubble Sequence. Galaxy structures and morphology as determined through high resolution imaging is a key method for determining how this transformation occurs, specifically the role of dissipation to form disks and the role of mergers within the galaxy formation process. New imaging surveys from the Hubble Space Telescope using NICMOS and WFC3 are allowing us to investigate this process in great detail. This talk will include a discussion of new results and what they are revealing about the galaxy formation process.
