A focal-plane chopper is described which uses two mirrors oscillating in phase to give an action equivalent to a single-mirror chopper undergoing parallel motion. A sinusoidal image displacement is achieved which can be maintained at high frequencies using small power dissipation; the resultant detector microphonics are many times lower than those of a conventional chopper for the same image displacement.
