The variation of the ratio of the galactic gamma ray flux in the two energy intervals 70 to 300 MeV and 300 to 2000 MeV is derived as a function of galactic latitude for two longitudinal regions using COS-B gamma-ray data. It is shown that this energy ratio is a good test between a more proton and a more electron induced origin of galactic gamma rays. Astrophysical information is used about the spatial distribution of interstellar matter, starlight, and primary cosmic rays and the energy-dependent angular resolution of the COS-B detector is taken into account.
