In an attempt to observe solar features at an accuracy of better than 0.1 percent in contrast, a precise surface photometric observing system for the whole sun using two-dimensional CCD cameras has been developed. The details of the observing system of this CCD solar surface photometer (CCDSSP) are presented, and the calibration and performance are described. The photometric accuracy of the CCDSSP is as good as 0.07 percent per 7 arcsec square pixel per 4 hr observation, which may be the best possible accuracy in this type of video signal processing.
