All CCD-based photon-counting detectors using interpolative centroiding
suffer from periodic pattern noise arising from errors associated with
the centroiding algorithm. A new centroiding technique is described
which removes this pattern noise. The use of a lookup table in hardware
enables the pattern noise to be corrected in real time.
