A near-infrared pointlike source was detected in the central part of the S106 molecular cloud, and a medium-resolution (8 kaysers) spectrum was measured between 1.25 and 2.50 microns. The spectrum consists of a flat portion at wavelengths below 1.82 microns and a steep part in the range above 2.04 microns. The maximum flux is 0.9 Jy at 2.22 microns. The v equals 2-0 absorption band is detected, and the upper limit on the integrated B-gamma flux is 2 x 10 to the -16th W/sq m.
