It is described how Newtonian techniques for rapidly rotating inhomogeneous stellar models can be extended to a treatment of nonradial perturbations of spherical stellar models in general relativity. Problems discussed include the perturbation equations for a nonradial mode, reduction to an explicitly fourth-order system inside the stellar model, a second-order equation for K in the exterior vacuum, and boundary conditions.
