The software developed for the GLAST detector has been successfully adapted to allow simulation of the EGRET detector and analysis of the archival EGRET data. The computer model of EGRET provides a testbed for a direct comparison of analysis approaches between EGRET and GLAST as well as a solid foundation for validation and extrapolation of the EGRET response beyond that measured in test beams. Specifically, we provide a new estimate of the EGRET effective area above 300 MeV. These parameters are used to provide a new estimate of the gamma-ray diffuse excess for the galactic center region.
