The observational constraints on the stellar wind of the T Tauri star RU Lupi are used to develop a model of the dynamics of the line-emitting region. A magnetically driven wind model, in which Alfvén waves provide the main driving mechanism, is shown to be in good agreement with the optical observations: it is able to reproduce the observed velocity-distance relationship, the density requirements and seems also able to reproduce the observed line profiles. Furthermore, it suggests a possible explanation for the non-uniformity of the temperature in the line-emitting region and for the observed stratification in the line widths.
