A coherent model of the spiral structure of the Milky Way galaxy has
been established which incorporates all available optical and radio
data. The model contains four arms in two symmetrical pairs. Radial
velocities of H II regions have been interpreted through a galactic
rotation scheme linked to the distances of the exciting stars.
