Regarding the universe as an open thermodynamical system, a departure from traditional cosmology is proposed in which the universe starts expanding from a vacuum fluctuation and the matter creation takes place out of gravitational energy during the expanding phase of the universe. The Modified Friedmann equations incorporating matter creation function N(t) are derived. Different choice of N(t) gives rise to different cosmological histories. The Anthropic Principle motivates the choice of a special functional form of N(t) which leads to the observable universe with a plausible mechanism of matter and entropy production.
