Eclipsing Binaries: Discoveries

Scientific paper

M. Collins has found a probable new eclipsing binary on photos taken in the course of the UK Nova Patrol. The star is at α = 21h06.5m, δ = +19°25' (2000) and spends most of its time at mag 10.5 - 10.6 photovisual but occasionally fades to 12.2, and possibly further. Collins' chart and magnitude sequence using the Guide Star Catalog is reproduced. From the times of fades recorded on archived patrol photos he has also derived the following approximate light elements: Min = JD 2449593.484 + 10.3536×E. Further visual observations and CCD photometry confirm that the star does fade according to the ephemeris. The author calculates predicted times of minima visible from Britain through to the end of 1997. [This star has been designated TAV J2106+194].
