A telescope is described which consists of a fully steerable structure supporting an annual reflector and a number of secondary reflectors which reflect the incoming radiation into an equal number of receivers. An example is given of such an annular synthesis telescope utilizing 16 millimetre-wave receivers to realize 81 independent antenna beams. Its properties are compared to those of an earth-rotation synthesis telescope and a single-dish multi-beam telescope employing as many millimetre-wave receivers and having the same resolution. The same structure can be used to support a number of such annuli each operating over a different waveguide band.
