We give examples of open smooth manifolds that cannot be homeomorphic to leaves of any Riemannian foliation of arbitrary codimension on a compact manifold. We also present a new class of non-leaves of C^0 codimension one foliations, simply connected manifolds of dimension greater than or equal to 5 that are non-periodic in homotopy, namely in their 2-dimensional homotopy groups.
