A new method, based on the moments of perihelion passages as observational data to the orbit improvement, was used to link all the observed apparitions of comet Halley in 240 BC - 1986 AD by one system of orbital elements. Preliminary results are presented. The problem of secular variations in the nongravitational parameters of the comet's motion, influencing the results of the orbit improvement, is discussed. It is shown that a successful modelling of the motion of comet Halley over the last two millennia is also possible if we take into account a variability of the nongravitational effects with time.
