Results of an investigation of the infrared spectrum of ZrO which reveal the presence of a new 3 Pi-3 Delta system are presented. ZrO interoferograms and arc spectra from a gas discharge tube were obtained using a large Fourier transform spectrometer. Analysis of the Q branches observed in the interferograms and P and R branches contained in the arc spectra indicate that the Q branch observed at 10684 kaysers is associated with a transition involving the X' 3 Delta 2 substrate, and it is concluded that the upper state of the transition must be 3 Pi from the Lambda-type doubling of the 3 Pi 0 substrate. The R heads of the new system are found to account for four of the seven distinct heads observed in the 9299-9500-A region of the ZrO spectrum, with the remaining three heads probably due to a second system.
