Solar Protons: Predictions

Scientific paper

The authors try to use a neutral network method to give warnings of solar proton events. Their results are: (1) two experiments show that a success rate greater than >85% can be obtained by this method; (2) the peak flux range of the proton event can be predicted with a success rate of 54%; (3) an improvement in the selection of warning factors and in our understanding of the propagation of proton beams from a flare site seems to be very necessary for improvement in warning prediction.
