The presence of extremely dense CO 2 fluid inclusions in migmatites from the Colorado Front Range has been confirmed by Raman analyses. These inclusions show metastable homogenization of liquid and vapor ( L + V L ) at temperatures below the triple point of pure CO 2 . Raman analyses failed to show the presence of N 2 , CH 4 , H 2 S, or any other components found in the past in CO 2 -rich inclusions with such low homogenization temperatures. We conclude that the high density resulted from a decrease in inclusion-cavity volume during isobaric cooling of less dense inclusions.
