The design for a vacuum ultraviolet test facility is described. The initial purpose is for measuring refractive indices and optical homogeneity of substrate materials, and testing and aligning components used in the SIMURIS (Solar Interferometric Mission for Ultrahigh Resolution Imaging and Spectroscopy) IFTS (Imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometer). The IFTS beamsplitter is used as an example. The design features several operating modes including interferometry, Schlieren testing, and refractometry. A UV camera and fringe analysis software facilitates measurements. A progressive self testing scheme is described for commissioning the system. The much more general use for optical testing of samples and assemblies at wavelengths down to 120 nm is discussed.
