The authors present high resolution ammonia maps of the temperature structure and kinematics across the M17 SW molecular cloud. In the optically thin narrow line NH3 (2,2) emission, the complex separates into several distinct velocity features, each revealing substructures on scales <1018cm (characteristic clump size: ≡13arcsec ≅ 0.15 pc.) The sharp boundary towards the H II-region and the regular gas temperature fall-off with increasing distance from the ionization front suggests that both major velocity features (at >v< ≡ 19.0 and 21.8 km s-1) are physically interacting with the expanding H II-region.
