A Monte Carlo computer code is described which is intended to generate and analyze statistically the two-dimensional trajectories that represent the complex motion of individual dust grains in the lunar regolith. The code, whose basic functions depend on the meteorite mass spectrum at the moon as well as the geometric profile of the impact crater formed by a given meteorite, is used to trace the solar-wind exposure history of grains on the top surface of the regolith as a function of their size. The solar-wind maturation of the grains is deduced by combining this analysis with results of solar-wind simulation experiments, and the validity of the evolutionary scheme is tentatively checked against experimental findings on solar-wind effects registered in the surface layers of the regolith. Present uncertainties in the computations are outlined, and it is suggested that the past activity of the ancient solar wind over a time scale of several billion years can be studied by extracting dust grains within the lunar 'skin' of several strata at various depths in lunar core tubes.
