Hill's classical method of calculating disturbances of rectangular coordinates is modified in the sense that an orbit in the field of any potential may be used as the intermediate orbit. The classical case where the potential is equal to 1/r is analyzed. The expressions obtained are free of singularities at zero inclinations and zero eccentricities.
