A model of a rapidly spinning pulsar with a triaxiality of roughly 1.7 x 10 to the -8th is used here to explain the pulsed emission from the young SNR SN1987A. Such a small epsilon may result in an 8-hr precession period of the star and strong gravitational energy loss, producing a measurable period derivative in the near future. Photon or neutron beams from the pulsar could create an electron or positron cascade emitting optical Cerenkov radiation inside stationary plasma filaments located beyond the light cylinder. Observational tests of these effects are suggested.
