A mathematical model of solar wind - cometary atmosphere interaction containing three strong discontinuity surfaces defined from the solutions (bow shock in the solar wind, inner shock in the comet's gas and contact discontinuity) is formulated. Effects of solar wind "mass-loading" by means of photoionization of cometary neutrals and resonance charge exchange of cometary ions are considered. The domination of these effects for many comets is shown. A restricted problem of flow of cometary gas and solar wind around a given contact surface was solved.
