An analytical model of elliptical galaxy formation is formulated that yields predicted mass distributions. A good fit is obtained when the model is tested against the luminosity profile of NGC 3379. The present theory is identical to a parallel theory of solar system formation which suggests that the mass distribution of the solar system should be similar to that of NGC 3379. Comparison supports this conjecture.
