Scientific paper

The paper presents results of model calculations of the diffusion of the transverse component of the IMF into the earth's magnetosphere. It is shown that the IMF penetration coefficient into the magnetotail is equal to 0.06 at a distance of 25 earth radii from the earth and 0.12 at a distance of 180 earth radii from the earth. It is concluded that the y component of the magnetic field into the tail can be explained by IMF diffusion from the solar wind.
