We have developed a model to predict the intensity of the diffuse ultraviolet radiation field from any direction in the sky as a function of the scattering parameters of interstellar dust the albedo and the phase function and the intensity of a possible extragalactic component. We have applied this model to a restricted set of archival data between 1250 and 2000 Å, placing limits of 0.3-0.6 on the albedo of the dust grains and 100-400 photons cm-2 s-1 sr-1 Å-1 on the intensity of an extragalactic background.
