We have developed a model to predict the intensity of the diffuse ultraviolet radiation field from any direction in the sky as a function of the scattering parameters of interstellar dust the albedo and the phase function and of a possible extragalact ic component. We have applied this model to a restricted set of archival data between 1250 and 2000, placing limits of 0.3 to 0.6 on the albedo of the dust grains and 100 - 400 photons cm-2 s-1 sr-1 -1 on the intensity of an extragalactic background. We plan to extend and apply this model to the far ultraviolet (900 - 1600 A) where we have hundreds of Voyager observations over the entire sky.
